Valle de Guadalupe Hotels of 2020: Top Ways to Stay in Mexican Wine Country

As Valle de Guadalupe, the popular wine region in Baja continues to grow,  so do the lodging options. Our list of top spots to stay includes something for every type of traveler – the adventurer, the bougie, and the environmentalist.

The first time I visited, my friends tried to find a place to meet the group’s expectations – in other words, a typical American hotel – ample space, amenities, reasonable price, etc. Come to find out the standard chain hotel does not exist in Valle. So it’s best to expect less of what you are used to and more of what allows you to understand Valle genuinely. For example, you may trade space in your room for a rooftop balcony area that will enable you to watch the stars at night. Exchange the TV and phone in the room for gorgeous views and walkie-talkies.

I fed the inner camper in me by glamping for a night and then treated myself to a lux stay both in the same weekend. If you have visited Valle, you know that the accommodations are unique, and selecting a new hotel is an easy way to change your experience. So, if you don’t mind moving around and can find availability – why not experience a couple of different places during your trip?  After all, you may never find your favorite way to experience Valle de Guadalupe if you don’t try different “ways to stay.”

Use our Valle de Guadalupe Hotel Guide to plan your next stay

If you are looking for the creme de la creme of Valle de Guadalupe hotels, then the below selections are excellent options. You will find that “luxury” in Valle is simple with nothing unnecessary, yet luxurious in all the ways that matter – plush bedding, high-end amenities, picturesque views, first-class service, and superior bathroom/bath products.

El Cielo

WHY: Breathtaking grounds surrounded by two lakes, vineyards, mountains, and olive trees. Two dining options, winery and coffee shop located on the property. First-Class accommodations and butler service provided.

FYI: Room rates are on the high end of the area’s price point scale.

Bruma Casa 8

WHY: Hip and modern, this eco-luxury hotel perfectly blends traditional and contemporary design throughout the 8 suites. Each private suite is unique, cozy, and chic and attached to the main house that shares the kitchen, pool, living room, and outdoor lounge area.

FYI: Bruma winery and Fauna restaurant (Awarded Best Restaurant in Mexico) are located on the same property.

Encuentro Guadalupe

WHY: If you are a fan of unique architecture, then this hotel containing 22 freestanding eco-loft pods is for you. Set among the mountain rock formations, you can expect amazing panoramic views, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, and a spectacular infinity pool.

FYI: No kids or cars are allowed near guest rooms and resort navigation is only accessible via shuttle service or walking (hilly, rough roads). All communication with the resort is done via Walkie-Talkie.

If you want a personalized approach and the experience of living like a local in Valle de Guadalupe, then these selections are for you. The below hotels are small in size, creating an intimate ambiance where guests feel as if they are staying in a private home, rather than being a regular hotel occupant. Enjoy exclusive service, upscale accommodations, communal areas, and a homelike atmosphere.

Adobe Guadalupe Inn

WHY: With only six guest rooms guests are provided an intimate stay with that “home away from home” feeling. The beautiful property includes several excellent dining options, Adobe Guadalupe winery, Azteca horse stables, and romantic gardens.

FYI: This property intentionally does not have room keys and operates on the honors system. With limited space and high demand this inn books up quickly, so be sure to make reservations well in advance.

La Villa del Valle

WHY: The six-bedroom traditional Tuscan villa was originally intended as the owner’s weekend retreat and offers beautiful grounds with private outdoor space overlooking the vineyards. Renowned Vena Cava Winery and Corazon de Tierra restaurant are on the same property.

FYI: This is an adult-only hotel located in what may seem like a desolate area so the dirt roads and limited signage can make navigation to the property a challenge.

If you are traveling with a group that has diverse needs or looking for a one-stop-shop, then the below selections are excellent options for you. Spread out over more land; these resorts provide different levels of accommodations and supply travelers everything they need without leaving the property – food, drink, relaxation, recreational amenities, activities, and entertainment.

Hacienda Guadalupe

WHY: This hotel has one of the best views of Valle de Guadalupe. Experience the food at their restaurant and try the Melchum wines at the brand new tasting room. You’ll also want to make some time to relax by the pool and after a day of wine tasting or before your dinner reservation.

FYI: This is a great option for groups as they hotel boasts 16 rooms with balconies & terraces. If you want to learn about the history of wine in Mexico, the Mexican Wine Museum is almost across the street/highway.

Maglen Resort

WHY: Comfortable room options to meet any size group or budget in a beautiful natural setting. The property contains a pool, jacuzzis, fire pit, restaurant, cocktail bar, outdoor lounge areas, and on-site car rentals. Maglen is centrally located and a convenient distance to several top wineries.

FYI: Maglen offers early check-in and always does their best to accommodate guests by allowing access to your room before the official check-in time if needed. There are no TVs at this resort.

Agua de Vid

WHY: It contains 24 rustic-industrial rooms, a hostel with 11 glamping rooms, a restaurant, a rooftop cocktail lounge, and an eco-spa. Caters to those looking for health and wellness services like massages, facials, temazcales, reflexology, hydrotherapy, and cell regeneration tubs at Terra de Vid, the eco-spa.

FYI: This is a pet-friendly hotel. The resort is a bit on the “rustic” side and not well equipped for colder weather stays.

Contemplacion

WHY: A peaceful 6 room hotel set in the hillside and connected to common areas by a convenient deck system. Each room contains floor to ceiling windows with electric blinds to allow guests to conveniently appreciate the gorgeous vineyard and mountain views. Rooms contain thoughtful amenities like slippers, robes, resort instructions, and furnished balconies. Do not skip the excellent complimentary breakfast.

FYI: Water pressure is poor and takes about 10 minutes to heat up; however, the water left running is used for irrigation and never wasted.

Hotel Boutique Valle de Guadalupe

WHY: Expansive grounds featuring great pools, hot tubs, restaurants, bars, and horseback riding. It offers several options including classic rooms, deluxe studios, exclusive suites, and spacious villas. Exceptional service with knowledgeable concierge.

FYI: Property is off the beaten track so an SUV or 4×4 vehicle is recommended. Be aware that the property also contains horses and other livestock.

If you are looking to experience the stunning nature of Valle de Guadalupe without sacrificing modern luxury then, go glamping. With glamping, less is more so think traditional camping but with some of the comforts and luxuries of home, i.e., beds, showers, climate control. The below options do not limit glamping to tents, explore the wide variety, including bubble tents, cabanas, and trailers.

Cuatro Cuatros

WHY: The hotel consists of 19 elevated cabanas. Each tent is spacious, cozy, and contains all the amenities you will need – lux king or queen beds, bathroom, heating, cooling, and a private terrace with stunning views of the vineyard and hills.

FYI: Property is located about 30 minutes away from the main Valle. Be sure to make reservations at Bar Bura. The cliffside bar located on the property is one of the most romantic spots to have a drink and watch the sunset over the ocean.

Campera Hotel Burbuja

WHY: North America’s only bubble hotel allows guests to literally sleep under the stars. The clear bubble tents are like traditional camping but contain luxurious amenities including climate control, queen beds, curtains, and a mini-bar.

FYI: Bathrooms are modern and clean with great water pressure; however, the water did have a sulfur smell at times. For this reason, the bubbles with a private, detached bathroom are recommended.

Casa Misiones

WHY: Experience nature under an over-sized tent (or cabaña) that boasts a king size bed, air conditioning and heater, a private deck with your own chimney in case you choose to sit outside at night and look at the magnificent sky and stars in Valle de Guadalupe.

FYI: The tents (or cabañas) are meant for 2 people, but for a small fee 1 ADDITIONAL guest may be added. Small pets are permitted, but a fee is required for each pet.

Lumi

Photos by Lumi

WHY: Luxurious camping in a unique, tipi-style tent surrounded by lemon and olive trees. Each of the 6 tents contains a comfortable queen size bed and has showers and bathrooms next to the tent area. An affordable option and the perfect retreat for adventurers to retire after a long day of wine tasting.

FYI: While restaurants and wineries are nearby, the Lumi property is located on a dirt road, a short distance from the main (and paved) roads. So, be prepared for a bumpy ride (especially during the rainy season) and always allow ample time to get to dinner or tasting reservations.

Arre Lulu

WHY: Two custom 30’ airstream trailers set among the Valle de Guadalupe hillside. Each trailer has its own deck with outdoor seating, kitchenette, bathroom, and climate control.

FYI: With only 2 trailers, this unique gem stays booked during prime tourist season. Book early.
