HOTEL REVIEW

Many of places located in Valle de Guadalupe focus on a return to nature and Encuentro Guadalupe hotel is no different. We needed to check out this space that invites guests to be present and connected to nature.

Booking - How was the reservation process?

Simple and straightforward. Several options to book at Encuentro – website, booking.com, or hotel.com. We used booking.com and had zero complications.

Getting there - How easy was it to find the hotel?

Very accessible and not complicated to find. A simple google search gave the address and we easily navigated using google maps. It’s visible from the highway with clear signage, so it’s hard to miss.

The first impression is the best impression - What stood out upon arrival?

Impressive and innovative architecture and we were excited to see more, but a shuttle van was blocking the parking spaces and walkway to the lobby, so we had to wait without a clear direction of where to do and what to do next.  Once inside, the beautiful, open-air lobby made up for the delays and the ambiance warranted a short break to enjoy the view from one of the highest points in the valley.

Hola! - How was the check-in experience

Since rooms are located in the mountains, the process is unique. If heading up to your pod immediately, park and leave luggage in the car while you check-in – we learned the hard way and lugged our suitcases all the way to the lobby and back. The shuttle van will pick luggage up from the car and take you up the mountain to your pod. Friendly and professional front desk staff welcomed us with a glass of sangria, gave a thorough overview of the resort, and explained the unique communication and transportation methods. The entire process was very smooth.

What’s the crowd like? Who will it impress?

There was a blend of people staying here – families, couples, and groups. The resort is definitely designed as a retreat and for those planning to take full advantage of the amenities by staying a few days – not a good option if you are merely looking for a quick place to sleep in between wine tastings. If you are a fan of breathtaking views, unique rooms, and a slow pace – then you will be pleased.

Mi casa, su casa - What about the room?

From the outside, the pod looks rustic and basic; however, inside it felt luxurious and sophisticated with Edison lightbulbs and industrial light fixtures. Space was well purposed and did not feel cramped. Craving some deep, restorative sleep? They got you. Bed, pillows, crisp sheets, and cool room temp all contributed to a great sleeping atmosphere. Lighting was very relaxing and blinds kept morning light out.

Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down

Small, yet perfectly functional. Clean and bright, it met our high standards. Water temp and pressure were perfect – which from experience isn’t always the case in Valle hotels. All bath products were from Viniphera spa – local spa.

It’s the little things that matter - What about the extras, mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?

Loved the custom shampoos and body washes. A full carafe of cold water upon arrival. Robes in the room were cozy and useful – one for using in the room and one for the pool/outdoors.

A traveler never forgets - What stuck with you?

Views from the room,  breakfast area,  and infinity pool were exceptional and certainly memorable. The use of radios

Time to say goodbye - How was the check-out experience?

Plan for extra time – process was not quick. To check out you need to radio the shuttle to arrange a pick-up, so do this in advance instead of waiting until you are ready to walk out the door. Shuttle pick up is located on the main road and will take you back to your car and help load your luggage. Return to lobby front desk to complete checkout. The entire process was about 40 minutes.

Just a tip - Any useful recommendations?

We suggest bringing your luggage with you to check-in and allowing the staff to deliver it to your room. Stay and enjoy the lobby views with your glass of complimentary sangria and later return at the end of your day. You will love arriving in the night to a perfectly lit, tranquil oasis. The darkness will conceal the view and keep the full scope of your surroundings a mystery, so waking up to magnificent morning views will be a  magical experience. Plan extra time for navigating property since shuttles or walking are your options to get around. A light continental breakfast is included, but splurge and order from the al a carte menu to enjoy a full breakfast. The pool and breakfast area are in the same location, so we recommend wearing or taking your bathing suit with you. This way you can stay and enjoy the pool and avoid an extra trip back to your room.

Bottom line - Was it worth your Benjamins?

For being in the top price tier, we do not feel the price was entirely justified.  The concept and intrigue (paying for the view) are what drive the price vs. the quality of rooms, amenities, and service. Convenience and waiting time both take away from really enjoying and experiencing amenities to the fullest.

Would you stay there again?

It was a neat experience but been there done that – check it off the list.
