With humble beginnings and homemade wine, Baron Balche has grown into a notable Valle de Guadalupe winery. Current owner Juan Rios decided to restore family property in 1997 and the rest in history! Baron Balche vineyard first stated out with homemade wine, which now features five labels that have taken the Valle by storm. Their Zinfandel, Double Blanc, Reserva Especial, Tempranillo and Grenache were first available in 2000 and now the winery has a current production of 20,000 crates a year.

Looking to grow each year, Baron Balche is looking to increase that production figure to 50,000 crates and looks to erect a hotel on the property in the near future. But until then, you can still enjoy their fine wine selections with a visit to their outstanding property.

The name Baron Balche is a tribute to Mayan culture, with the word “balché” used to reference a tree cherished by the Maya people for its fruit. The fruit was then made into a special fermented drink that was then served to high-ranking officials in the culture. Their wines are made with this distinction in mind, with “baron” being a title of honor.

At the heart of the Baron Balche vineyard is Oscar Delgado Rodriquez, who is the property’s oenologist since 2014. Every day, he pours his creativity into leading a gifted team with the task of creating wines that feature amazing taste, originality and balance.
