Gravitational decantation
The Valle de Guadalupe is all about the return to nature and being one with the land. To achieve this mission and stay true to the spirit of Valle, Decantos utilizes facilities that combine tradition and modernity. This winery is different because it uses decantation or gravity. The project was born several years ago with the idea to eliminate the mechanical pumping often used in winemaking and utilize the natural law of gravity from the beginning of the winemaking process of receiving the grapes to the final step of bottling the wine. The winemakers believe this production method allows them to return to tradition while respecting the raw materials used in the process. Owned and operated by the Granados family, natives of Ensenada, Decantos came into being in August of 2015.
Although the entire family can usually be seen on a weekend, it’s the brothers, Alonso and Alejandro, who are the faces of the winery. Alonso, a lawyer by trade, lost his enthusiasm for law and left his job. His passion for winemaking led him to Spain, where he spent six years learning from some of the world’s best winemakers. He brought back what he learned and put to use several modern winemaking techniques that have never been used in Mexico. Younger brother Alejandro is the man behind the Decantos’ operations. You can see him everywhere, greeting guests upon arrival and ensuring world-class hospitality to all who visit.
Being a family-run winery creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel as if you’re part of the Granados family. Decantos vineyard isn’t near the highway; it’s located down a dirt road, off the beaten path, with marvelous scenic views. Perched high above all the other wineries, Decantos provides an expansive view of the entire valley. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, in fact, the abundance and variety of seating areas make it a great place for families and groups.
Enjoy a wine tasting inside at the impressive bar crafted from an old tree, or grab a picnic table and enjoy the food and glass of wine outside on the lawn. Decantos Valle de Guadalupe is still a young winery. The majority of their offerings are still from the 2014 harvest. Currently the three lines of wine that Decantos offers include: Young Line, Reserve Line, and Premium Line. All lines boast unique, sensual flavors you are sure to enjoy.

Our Recommendation
FOOD & DRINKS AT THE PATIO
Linger longer. The full-spectrum view of the valley, comfortable atmosphere, great food, and excellent wine make it the perfect place to relax, kick back and feel at home. Between all the indoor and outdoor tables, couches, balcony, and lawn there is a place for everyone. So don’t be in a rush – we recommend spending the day. Take a tour, do a tasting, order food, and find a cozy spot to hang out. Be sure to keep your eye out for Wino, the famous vineyard pup. Wearing a bright bandana around his neck he roams the property putting smiles on visitors’ faces as they attempt to stop him long enough to pet.
Insider tip: Decantos provides a winery tour for $100.00 m.n, and the wine tasting can be added to the tour for $30.00 m.n. The winery tour and wine tasting with an oenologist requires a reservation.
